Who am I and what is this site/blog about? My name is Steve Haase. I am an avid bodybuilder living in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. I have been a bodybuilder off and on most of my life. I started out with an old broken down Weider (concrete and plastic) weight set and a torn up adjustable bench that I managed to rescue from a neighbor’s trash at the tender age of 13. That is when the bodybuilding bug bit. I have trained on and off through out my life. In the early days I worked out religiously with that crappy old weight set, until I could afford to join a “real” gym.
I have joined many commercial gyms since. I currently have memberships with Gold’s Gym and 24 Hour Fitness. If you’re ever in Las Vegas and want to look me up I’ll be happy to let you know which gym and location I’ll be at that day. I train five days a week. What I have discovered about commercial gyms for me anyway, is they provide inspiration, comradery and motivation you just won’t get training on your own. I find that I push myself harder when there is an audience and gym buddies and or a training partner around to push me.
I am 53 almost 54 years old. I feel more like a 21 year old and I’m told by most I look in my thirties or early forties. I take no prescription medications and to the best of my knowledge have no chronic or underlying medical conditions. This I believe is no accident. I truly believe the fitness lifestyle is responsible. I once had an older trainer tell me (he was 74 at the time and in GREAT shape), “the gym is the fountain of youth”, and I believed it then and still do. Everyone is looking for a magic potion or the “ideal” workout. In my opinion, there is no such thing.
There is an old proverb in bodybuilding…”Everything works some of the time, and nothing works all of the time,” What this really means is, your body will respond to vigorous exercise in a positive way for a little while, but eventually, being the adaptable creatures we are, our bodies adjust to the stress. Therefore we need to constantly change what we do or progress stagnates. I will be writing several articles on this and many other topics.
This blog is open to all who wish to participate. It is a no nonsense and no BULLSHIT view of the sport and art of bodybuilding. If you have a sensitive nature and find occasional profanity offensive, please move on to another site. I tell it like it is and sometimes that involves calling BULLSHIT when it’s needed, and in bodybuilding, I’m ashamed to admit, there’s lots of it.
I am not the total authority on bodybuilding, but being in the sport for nearly 40 years, I’ve learned a thing or two about the subject. Also for whatever it’s worth; I am also a Certified Personal Trainer. I’m a student of the sport and hope to always be. The opinions and suggestion stated here are solely my own and those of other posters. Please view any advice or suggestions here as purely informational and open for discussion and speculation. Prior to trying any training routine, supplement, drug, etc, please consult with a competent physician on the matter. Also research whatever you consider doing thoroughly. There are numerous sites, forums and books available on these subjects. From time to time I will be recommending some of them to you.
On the topic of recommendations…I do have products for sale and I also have links to affiliate sites that pay me a small fee for referring people to purchase their products. This is what pays for my hosting and bandwidth, so if you feel so inclined to view and purchase some of these products I will be most appreciative.
I will not make personal recommendations of any product that I do not have personal knowledge of. So if in doubt about anything mentioned on this blog, please feel free to contact me on the contact page for my opinions or post a reply to the offending article. I answer all requests personally. I’m a busy guy and it may take me a day or two to respond, but I will respond personally and directly to all who take the time to contact me.
Your brother in iron;
Steve
